Showing Up Where It Matters: Beacon's 2026 Week of Service

At Beacon Mutual, supporting our community isn’t something we talk about once a year, it’s part of how we operate every day. Our Week of Service is a dedicated time for employees to step outside of their day-to-day roles and come together in support of organizations that make a meaningful difference across Rhode Island and beyond.

Throughout the first week of June, Beacon employees volunteered their time and energy across a range of local nonprofits, each one aligned with our values of care, safety, and community connection.

"Community is at the heart of everything we do,” said Amy Vitale, President of Beacon Mutual. “Week of Service is one of the many ways our employees live that commitment, showing up, lending a hand, and making a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.”

A Week of Hands-On Impact

Across four days, Beacon teams partnered with organizations focused on animal welfare, youth and family support, food access, and veteran services. Each volunteer effort reflected a shared goal: to contribute where it counts and support the people and causes that strengthen our communities.

Supporting Local Animal Shelters

Beacon volunteers kicked off the week by assisting both Cranston Animal Control and Forever Paws Animal Shelter. Teams rolled up their sleeves to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming environments for animals in need. From cleaning kennels and washing windows to supporting outdoor upkeep and organization projects, these efforts helped local shelters continue their important work caring for vulnerable animals.

Creating Comfort and Resources for Children and Families

At Beacon’s Conference Center, employees worked together on projects supporting organizations dedicated to children’s well-being.

With Friends of Jack, volunteers assembled “Superhero” kits designed to bring comfort and confidence to children facing stressful medical situations. These kits, complete with capes, masks, and stuffed companions, help create a more positive and supportive experience for young patients and their families.

Later, teams partnered with Reach Out and Read Rhode Island to prepare thousands of books that will be distributed during pediatric visits. By helping organize and label these materials, Beacon volunteers supported early literacy efforts and helped ensure more children have access to books from an early age.

Helping Nourish the Community

Midweek, volunteers joined Good Neighbors RI to support their mission of increasing access to healthy food. Whether working outdoors in the organization’s garden or assisting with pantry organization and food distribution efforts, Beacon employees contributed to initiatives that help bridge the gap for individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Honoring Those Who Have Served

To close out the week, Beacon volunteers partnered with Dare to Dream Ranch, an organization dedicated to helping veterans transition back to civilian life through therapeutic and skill-building programs. Teams worked together to build and maintain structures on the property, supporting a space that fosters healing, growth, and renewed purpose.

A Shared Commitment to Community

From animal shelters and literacy programs to food access and veteran support, this year’s Week of Service reflected the many ways Beacon employees give back, by showing up, working together, and contributing to something bigger than themselves.

While each project was unique, the impact was the same: stronger connections, meaningful support for local organizations, and a continued commitment to the communities we proudly serve.
