Volunteering on the Water

Written by Beacon Mutual | 7/23/18 2:21 PM

Beacon volunteers set out on twice this summer on June 28th and July 18th and crossed Narragansett bay to help the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation with cleaning up the island. As part of Beacon's commitment to support the Rhode Island community, this was the second clean-up day organized this summer by the Beacon PRIDE Committee.

Beacon volunteers departed from Fort Adams and traveled to Rose Island aboard the Foundation's lobster boat, Starfish. Beacon volunteers divided into teams, and as part of Beacon's commitment to safety, the teams used work gloves, bug repellent, sunscreen, and stayed hydrated in the hot sun. Beacon reminds staff and policyholders to dress appropriately and be prepared when working outside.

The Rose Island lighthouse keeper provided information and the opportunity to tour the lighthouse museum and the island's glorious scenery on Narragansett Bay. To learn more about The Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation, and the wonderful work they do, visit their website at http://www.roseisland.org.

Beacon employees look forward to the next opportunity to volunteer in the Rhode Island community! Read more about Beacon in the Community.
