Beacon’s Focus on Community Shines During Week of Service

More Than a Tradition: Beacon’s 2025 Week of Service in Action

At Beacon Mutual, giving back is more than a tradition—it’s part of who we are. Every year, our Week of Service gives employees the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand to nonprofits making a difference in the lives of others. From local animal shelters to regional youth organizations, our team showed up with energy, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose.

"When our employees step into the community—not as insurance professionals, but simply as neighbors who care—it reinforces the kind of company we strive to be. The Week of Service is a reminder that real impact often starts with small, hands-on actions and a willingness to show up.," said Brian Spero, President and CEO of Beacon Mutual.

Over the course of the week, Beacon volunteers took part in a variety of projects across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Some efforts focused on outdoor cleanup to prepare community spaces for summer programs, while others offered meaningful moments of connection—like writing personal letters to seniors or sharing ice cream with Alzheimer’s center clients.

Several of the organizations we supported are also Beacon policyholders, strengthening our shared commitment to safety, well-being, and community impact.

Here’s a look at the meaningful work Beacon employees accomplished:

  • Hope Alzheimer's Center (Cranston, RI)
Volunteers rolled up their sleeves for outdoor cleanup and power washing, then spent quality time with day clients over lunch and a cheerful ice cream social.

  • Love for Our Elders (National)
Volunteers handwrote over 100 thoughtful letters to seniors experiencing loneliness, spreading kindness one envelope at a time.

  • Reach Out and Read Rhode Island (Statewide)
Reach Out and Read is a program that helps pediatricians distribute books to patients at their annual well visits from birth to age 5. More than 2,000 books were stickered and prepped by our team, helping young children build early literacy skills through this statewide initiative.

  • Boys & Girls Club of Fall River, MA
In partnership with HUB International, Beacon volunteers tackled yardwork, branch removal, and general cleanup to get the facility ready for summer camp season.

  • Old Colony YMCA (Middleborough, MA)
Collaborating with long-time agent partner FB Insure, volunteers took on a spring cleaning project to refresh the grounds and support healthy, active programming for local families.

  • We R.I.S.E. (Foster, RI)
Volunteers teamed up to construct new fencing and structures at this therapeutic ranch, supporting the organization’s mission to empower and heal through animal-assisted services.

  • EGAPL Heart of RI Animal Rescue League (Cranston, RI)
Our team pitched in with a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks to help create a cleaner, safer space for rescue animals awaiting their forever homes.

From swinging hammers to writing notes of encouragement, our employees brought their full hearts to each opportunity. The 2025 Week of Service was a reflection of what Beacon stands for: people helping people and building stronger communities—together.

We’re grateful to every organization that welcomed us, to our agent partners who joined in, and to our employees who continually rise to the occasion.
