Beacon Mutual was recognized with an Exemplary Worksite Health Award from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce for effective programs encouraging employee health and well-being in a meaningful way.
“We’re proud to win this award because Beacon views well-being not just as an employee benefit but as an opportunity to support employees in all aspects of their personal and professional lives," said Shannon Broadbent, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at Beacon Mutual.
The 28th Annual Worksite Health Awards celebrate companies that prioritize employee wellness. Beacon Mutual was one of 34 Rhode Island-based businesses honored by BCBSRI and the Chamber in recognition of their continued efforts to advance employee wellness and build a healthier Rhode Island.
The Worksite Health Awards are an opportunity for employers to learn from best practices while showcasing the advances being made every day to improve the health and well-being of Rhode Islanders at work. In this year’s awards, companies were once again recognized for their support of employees’ physical and emotional well-being during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With so many still working remotely, there continues to be a heightened priority on connecting with employees through new and innovative wellness offerings.
In 2022, Beacon Mutual rolled out a well-being incentive plan through Virgin Pulse for our employees. Employees can earn points for healthy habits, tracking steps and exercise, challenging co-workers to fun step challenges, and more. At the end of each quarter, those points equate to gift cards of up to $75.
Broadbent continued, "Enrollment and engagement in the Virgin Pulse incentive plan have far exceeded our goals and our employees are earning incentives for staying active and well. We look forward to continuing this program into 2023."
Beacon also added new and innovative wellness offerings as a way to bring Beacon employees together as they worked remotely. "We were excited to offer events such as Virtual BINGO night with employees and their families, Virtual Cooking with our CEO, Brian Spero, and a Virtual paint night. These virtual get-togethers were all well attended and now that we are back in the office, we continue to look for fun and creative ways to connect and be well together”, said Pam Alarie, Beacon Vice President of Human Resources.
2022 marks the 6th year that Beacon has received a Worksite Health Award. Since 1995, the awards have recognized businesses of all sizes headquartered in Rhode Island that demonstrate exceptional health and wellness programs and health-oriented workplace policies.
