2020 Lighthouse Award Winners

The Beacon Mutual Insurance Company is pleased to announce the five independent insurance agencies that have been selected for the 2020 Beacon Mutual Lighthouse Award for Agency Excellence. This award celebrates our partnership with these local agencies and recognizes them for demonstrating excellence in delivering Beacon’s workers’ compensation insurance coverage to Rhode Island policyholders and their employees.

The Lighthouse Award is an annual award presented to Beacon Mutual's top agencies for exhibiting performance excellence through profitable premium growth, new business growth, and retention outcomes, and through a demonstrated partnership with and commitment to Beacon based on their submission quality; their policyholder support with claims, loss prevention, underwriting and premium audit; their service as a market information resource; and their commitment to serve the Rhode Island community. As part of this award program, winning agencies selected local charities to receive a total of $5,000 from Beacon Mutual as part of our commitment to the community. At Beacon, we are proud to be able to contribute to support these charitable organizations.

About the 2020 Winners

OceanPoint Insurance Agency Inc has earned the distinction of earning the Lighthouse Award for 3 years in a row. In 2020, OceanPoint partnered with Beacon during COVID-19 to assist policyholders with payroll and payment plans during a difficult year as small businesses met economic challenges. The agency delivered strong small business flow with 64 new accounts and a calendar year combined ratio of 89%. OceanPoint selected the Newport County Regional YMCA as the Charity of Choice receiving $1000 from The Beacon Foundation. The mission of the Newport County Regional YMCA is to significantly improve and positively influence the quality of life and social well being for our members, our families and our community. Emphasis is placed on the whole person through the programs and activities that help develop spiritual, mental and physical well-being.

The Hilb Group of New England has continued to maintain a collaborative relationship with Beacon. The agency partners to retain accounts and write new business and their knowledgeable account managers communicate regularly with Beacon's Underwriting team. The Hilb Group has had a great results with a calendar year combined ratio of 93% and 16% new policy growth in 2020. The agency has selected the HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island as their Charity of Choice. HopeHealth is a non-profit organization serving thousands of people each year in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Caregivers support patients and their families through all stages of illness, providing hospice care, palliative care, home care, and dementia and Alzheimer’s support services.

Cross Insurance has shown their commitment to building a mutually beneficial relationship with Beacon. Their producers and account managers have been extremely responsive and knowledgeable as they work to deliver workers' compensation insurance coverage to their clients. In 2020 they supported 73 small businesses by assisting with their insurance policies with Beacon. In addition, the agency achieved a calendar year loss ratio of 55%. Cross selected the Boys & Girls Club of East Providence as their Charity of Choice. The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to inspire, enable, educate, and reach out to all young people in East Providence, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. For more than a century, Boys & Girls Clubs have helped put young people on the path to great futures.

Capital City Insurance Agency has been a Beacon partner through and through. Greg Ayrassian and his team understands the value of the local services we provide and continues to provide guidance and open lines of communication with our Underwriters. Capital City had a strong year of new business performance with an incredible 100% yield on accounts over $25,000. The agency selected Special Olympics of Rhode Island as their Charity of Choice. The mission of Special Olympics Rhode Island is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Builders Insurance Group has been very collaborative with Beacon and the Rhode Island Builders Association. The agency continues to be active with Beacon's Online Quoting Center assisting Rhode Island contractors with workers' compensation coverage. Michelle Soares has been helpful by providing her expertise and guidance on several focus groups with Beacon. The agency achieved success in 2020 earning 15% policy growth and a calendar year combined ratio of 49%. The Builders Insurance Group selected the Residential Construction Workforce Partnership as their Charity of Choice. The Residential Construction Workforce Partnership connects young Rhode Islanders looking to enter the construction trades with skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical, construction, management, or plumbing specialties.
